And her motherly instincts really kick in when it comes to her two pug pups, Sid and Nancy. If Alba possessed her character's force field, "I'd protect them from getting hit by cars because every day they stress me out that they're gonna get hit by a car," she says.
But there's another quality she wishes she didn't share with her onscreen alter ego: "I can be a little bit controlling, a little bit of a know-it-all."
Man About Town
Jamie Foxx is doing plenty of multitasking while in Miami to film the big-screen version of Miami Vice. When he's not working, he's busy making the social rounds.
The Oscar winner recently dined at The Forge Restaurant and later adjourned to the adjoining club Jimmy'z, where he partied the night away. The following day, Foxx worked off those cocktails at the Flamingo South Beach apartment complex, where he played a pickup three-on-three basketball game. "He was pretty good," Robbie Albert, one of the players on the opposing team, tells us. "He came on, said 'Hi, I'm Jamie,' and then hit a bunch of three-pointers to win the game."
Later, Foxx was spotted at Skybar with Shaquille O'Neal. And the following night he turned up at Nocturnal, a new club in downtown Miami, at a party hosted by Ocean Drive magazine. Foxx added his own spin to the party by jumping behind the deejay booth and working the turntables with DJ Tracey Young.
Caught in the Act
• Uma Thurman, watching the fireworks with boyfriend Andre Balazs at his beachfront hotel, Sunset Beach, on Shelter Island, off the coast of Long Island, N.Y.
• Tara Reid, singing and dancing atop a bar on the Greek island of Mykonos. Even after the music stopped and the lights turned on, the tanned actress – and new host of E!'s Wild On – continued her song-and-dance act.
• Singer John Mayer, catching Batman Begins with pals at a movie theater in his hometown of Fairfield, Conn. "He was chatting away with an employee about the tattoos on his arms that say 'home' and 'life,' " a source tells us. "He seemed to be glad to be out with his friends. It seemed like a laid-back night." After the film, he zipped off in his silver Porsche.
