In the hearing on Tuesday, Superior Court Judge David Yaffe set the next court date for Aug. 10.
According to the Alexander star's complaint, filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the 15-minute video was made by Farrell, 29, and model-actress Narain, 31, in 2003, with the agreement that they would never release it to the public, the Associated Press reports.
Farrell is seeking general and compensatory damages as well as an injunction prohibiting the promotion and sale of the tape.
Farrell also alleges that Narain has been working with the owner of an Internet pornography business and contacting the news media about the tape, which his papers claim are an "outrageous attempt to capitalize on the celebrity of plaintiff Colin Farrell."
The lawsuit also says the release of the videotape would irreparably harm Farrell's reputation and career, and he is demanding that all copies of the tape be returned to him.
