After announcing earlier in the week that he would sell Jennifer Aniston's former love letters on eBay, California lawyer Michael Baroni – who claims to have had a summer romance with the former Friends star in 1984 – declared on Saturday that he won't auction off the memorabilia after all, the Associated Press reports.

"I have voluntarily canceled the eBay auction upon receiving word from one of Jennifer's representatives that she didn’t want me conducting the auction," Baroni said in a statement to the AP. "I have nothing but fond memories of Jennifer as a friend and only wish her well." The sale of items including a birthday card written on toilet paper and a handwritten love note documenting the couple's relationship was due to begin on July 29.

Baroni claims their summer romance began when he was 16 and she was 15 and that it blossomed into a friendship that lasted until 1991 when Aniston's career took off. In an interview, he described Aniston as a "fun and lively" person. "I think the materials show an innocent look into someone I think is very endearing," Baroni said.

Baroni originally said he was conducting the sale for "financial reasons," the AP reported. The minimum bid for the materials was $100,000.

According to Baroni, there was confusion when three fake auctions popped up on the online auction Web site. "Any such postings on eBay purporting to be from me were not, in fact, from me," said Baroni. Neither Aniston nor her rep have commented on the auction.
