Kate Hudson got down and dirty on the set of her new thriller The Skeleton Key. "To have some real bruises and blisters and splinters and stuff, it was great," she told us at the film’s premiere at the Universal CityWalk in Universal City, Calif.
"It was really fun to be active," the actress, who was looking glamorous in a low-cut, floor-length Versace gown, says of doing her own stunts. "I grew up with boys. I'm an athletic girl. It was fun to put that to work." Although "there was no jumping off of moving vehicles," Hudson, playing a health-care aide working in a creepy mansion in the Louisiana bayou, had to "break a window and climb a breaking trellis."
Her sporty skills get a thumbs-up from Skeleton Key director Iain Softley. "She'd be shimmying up the wall of the side of the house," he says. "She's such an athlete. She's brilliant."
Capital Good Time
Where can you spot Kiefer Sutherland these days? Check in Washington, D.C., where he's filming the political thriller The Sentinel. There the 24 star recently had dinner with friends at Italian eatery Cafe Milano and the next night dined with his bodyguard and a friend at venerable restaurant Capital Grille.
At McFadden's, an Irish pub in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood, Sutherland partied in a VIP area designed specially for the occasion. Another night he was at the Georgetown-area watering hole Chadwick's. Dressed casually in jeans and a long-sleeve cotton shirt, "he blended right in," a patron told us. "No one went up to him, even when he was outside talking on his cell."
Sutherland also made the scene at Ozio, a downtown martini and cigar bar, where he sported a dark suit and was "in great spirits," says co-owner Stephanie Christacos. He chatted with busboys and posed for photos with fans. And the actor raved that "he was having a great time in D.C.," adds Christacos. That's pretty clear.
Caught in the Act
Eva Longoria and her basketball star beau Tony Parker, hanging out at Hollywood club Mood.
Ashley Olsen, partying in the VIP area of the Tropicana Bar at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The actress, clad in black, chilled with pal Selma Blair and some male friends while a bodyguard waited for her outside. Also on hand: Joaquin Phoenix, chain-smoking and chatting with Balthazar Getty and Darryl Hannah on a chaise by the pool.
Heath Ledger and pregnant girlfriend Michelle Williams, dining on tagliatelle with black truffles at Il Sole in West Hollywood.
