Mom: Paris On Track to Marry

There's no trouble in paradise for Paris Hilton and fiancé Paris Latsis, says family matriarch Kathy Hilton. "They're just enjoying the engagement," the I Want to Be a Hilton star told us. And even though Latsis's dad, Gregoris Kasidokostas, tells PEOPLE he thinks his son is too young to get married, Hilton says the wedding is on track for sometime next year. "The media starts all of these big grandiose stories, so it becomes a circus. She hasn't started planning the wedding because she hasn't even gotten back (to the U.S.) yet" from vacations in Saint-Tropez and London.
Once she does return, Kathy Hilton is optimistic that Paris and former best friend Nicole Richie – who are reuniting for a new season of The Simple Life – can get their relationship back on track. "They have been friends since they were little girls, and all girls go through humps in the road," says Kathy, who filled us in at a viewing party for the finale of her NBC show at the Palm restaurant in New York City. "And I'm hoping that things will settle down. I think they both miss each other."
Power of Persuasion
She's not proud of it, but Evan Rachel Wood – who plays a scheming schoolgirl in the new movie Pretty Persuasion – can easily recall the meanest thing she ever did to a schoolmate. "There was a guy in my class who was kind of a geek. I sat next to him and we became friends, and he asked me out. I didn't know what to say, so I said yes," she says. "Then everyone ran up to me and was like, 'Are you going out with him? Oh my God!' and I was like, 'Ew, no!' And he found out about it. I felt horrible. I never felt worse."
Still Wood, whom we caught up with at the New York City premiere of her independent film, says she had a tough time connecting to the conniving schoolgirl she plays in Pretty Persuasion. "This is the first character that I really couldn't relate to at all," she told us.
And the actress (who's starring with Gwyneth Paltrow in the upcoming Running with Scissors and Ed Norton in Down in the Valley) was grateful that Persuasion director Marcos Siega put her at ease while filming some embarrassing scenes. "Marcos had a rule that whenever you were uncomfortable doing something, the whole crew had to do it first," she says. "I had to do fake an orgasm, so the whole crew had to fake an orgasm." Talk about being team players.
Caught in the Act
Matthew McConaughey, sipping on cocktails at the Striper Bites bistro in Lewes, Del. The actor, who's filming the romantic comedy Failure to Launch in the area, was joined by costar Bradley Cooper and several crew members. The group split appetizers, including a seared tuna dish and nachos.
Jon Bon Jovi, dining at upscale East Hampton eatery Nick & Toni's. Also on hand at separate tables: Alec Baldwin with a lady friend and Howard Stern with girlfriend Beth Ostrowsky, holding court with pals on the patio.
