"Where some people write poetry or short stories, she writes lyrics," Lohan's rep tells PEOPLE of the star's upcoming CD, described as "Lindsay using music to express herself."
In one of the songs, the 19-year-old addresses the issues of having a dysfunctional family. "It's what's gone on with her and her life with her father and family for the last year and a half, and it's kind of her asking her father why he did this," the rep explains, adding: "With all this on her shoulders ... she's saying, 'You say you loved us, why are you doing this to us?'"
Lindsay, whose parents' bitter divorce trial is under way in Long Island, N.Y., has said that her father, Michael Lohan, never helped her career, though he now seeks half the earnings of his estranged wife Dina, who manages Lindsay.
Lindsay's song, described as a "rockish ballad," is expected to be released as a single within the next two months and a video shot for it in the next five weeks, the rep added.
Music mogul Tommy Mottola also tells PEOPLE: "Lindsay is one of the most talented, creative and intuitive people I've ever met. Her visual ideas for this piece are absolutely incredible. I suggested that she direct this video because in addition to having complete knowledge of the medium, she has even a greater understanding of the material."
