Officers with sniffer dogs raided the Shrewsbury Music Hall in search of what a police report calls "the suspected illegal use of class A drugs" – a category which includes cocaine and heroin. Authorities also searched the band's tour coaches.
Police would not identify the arrested man but Doherty, a confessed drug addict, had been held, according to his spokesman.
Emerging from the station on Sunday, Doherty said, as quoted by the Times of London: "The law is a pain in the arse. The only drugs that I had on me were prescription ones. I take them because they help keep me off heroin. That is all they found. The police took me in and questioned me all afternoon. It's all a load of rubbish."
Doherty, 26, shot to stardom as the lead singer of The Libertines but was kicked out of the band for his well-publicized drug addiction to crack cocaine.
He went on to form his own band Babyshambles and became a regular feature in Britain's tabloid press because of his on-off relationship with Moss – who became the focus of attention last month when she was pictured in one newspaper allegedly snorting cocaine.
Moss apologized, but Chanel, H&M and Burberry, among others, canceled their contracts with her. Police also said they would investigate the newspaper reports.
