Arrested Development star Jason Bateman had throat surgery to remove a benign polyp on Tuesday, his publicist said.
Cara Tripicchio, a spokesman for the actor, said the operation went smoothly and Bateman, 36, is doing well, the Associated Press reports.
Production on his Emmy-winning FOX series Arrested Development will be on hiatus for a few weeks while the actor recovers, executive producer Mitch Hurwitz tells TVGuide.com. Original episodes of the show will continue to air through November.
Bateman, whose credits include '80s sitcoms Silver Spoons and The Hogan Family, also appears in the upcoming Jennifer Aniston-Vince Vaughn comedy The Break Up.
Of his success on Arrested Development, which has earned raves from critics, Bateman told PEOPLE last year: "Most people retire after 25 years in this business. I got to start over."
