For his role as a Marine in the new movie Jarhead, Jake Gyllenhaal had to bare it all – well, almost all. "I was helped out by two Santa hats," he says about a very revealing scene in his war film. "I was not totally nude. But I'm definitely baring it!"

Luckily, he had little to be embarrassed about: Gyllenhaal buffed up considerably to play a military man. "I did a crazy circuit, like running five miles, then swimming for 20 minutes and getting out and getting on a bike and riding for 35 miles. I wouldn't stop and take a rest, and I would go on and lift (weights)," he told us at the movie's New York premiere. "For a month I did that, and then we went to boot camp, and then after that, when we were all on set, we would all work out together and do push-ups between scenes."

Now filming the crime thriller Zodiac (about serial killings in San Francisco in the 1960s and '70s), he's getting to take things a lot easier. "I'm playing a cartoonist right now," he told us. "They said, 'You have to lose 10 lbs. on each arm.'"

Trick or Treat
Usher, Jay-Z, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Ciara, Russell Simmons and Naomi Campbell were out in full force at a Halloween party hosted by JoonBug Productions and Four Degrees at New York City club Capitale. Though the celeb revelers went costume-less, they watched a host of characters – including naughty nurses, mermaids and a female partyer dressed like Tom Cruise from Risky Business, wearing nothing more than stilettos and a men's dress shirt – from the comfort of the VIP section.

The high-wattage group enjoyed bottles of Belvedere vodka and Veuve Clicquot champagne while grooving to a deejay mixing old-school Beastie Boys and Run-D.M.C. with songs from Jay-Z's The Black Album. And it wasn't until after 2 a.m. that Jay-Z, Simmons and Ciara wrapped up the revelry, exiting the club together .

Caught in the Act
Bruce Willis, hanging out at New York City lounge Pink Elephant. Also on hand: Owen Wilson.

Ryan Cabrera and Kimberly Stewart, shopping together at the Standard Style boutique in Kansas City. The singer – who was in town on tour – went on a spree at the store, picking up Trovata T-shirts, J. Lindeberg pants and Vans sneakers.
