Paris Hilton may be called to testify in a criminal case allegedly involving burglary, robbery, kidnapping and carjacking – all of which reputedly occurred nearly two years ago.

"She's not charged with anything," district attorney's spokeswoman Jane Robison tells the Associated Press of the subpoenaed Hilton, 24. "She just happens to be a witness."

The charges in the case are against Darnell Riley, 28, who was arrested Jan. 22, 2004, for allegedly breaking into the home of Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis and attempting to kidnap him, Robison said. Hilton briefly dated Francis in 2003.

Riley, who reportedly is currently being held in the Los Angeles County Jail, pleaded not guilty, according to his attorney, Ronald Richards. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21.

Hilton's connection to the case came about after one of Riley's associates allegedly told her of Riley's alleged involvement, said Richards, adding: "That was the basis for the probable cause to locate my client's photo, which coincidentally Joe Francis identified."

The hotel heiress was delivered her subpoena at her Hollywood Hills home last week. Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, said she will "comply with the law" but "I don't see what contribution, if any, she's going to be able to make in that case."
