Reese Sings Her Heart Out
Reese Witherspoon didn't realize she'd have to do her own singing for her role as country legend June Carter Cash in Walk the Line until after she'd agreed to do the movie. "They asked me to sing after I'd signed on to just act," she says. "I was a little nervous about that."
She even considered trying to get out of it, she admitted to us at the film's New York City premiere – where she looked radiant in a red Carolina Herrera dress. "But the filmmakers really wanted it to be the actors," she says. "And, you know, it was actually a good thing. It taught us how to be musicians. You think you're good – you sing in your car and then you go into a recording booth."
As for working with Joaquin Phoenix, who plays Johnny Cash, the two became "great friends." But they used their downtime on the set a bit differently: "He was always playing the guitar and playing with the band," says the mom of two. "I was taking care of the kids."
The Country Girl
American Idol champ (and Oklahoma native) Carrie Underwood has been enjoying her time in New York City, where she attended the Country Music Awards (and sang her hit "Jesus Take the Wheel"), but she admits it can be tough "trying to fit in." Her remedy? Going to some "really cool New York-style parties and wearing cool designer-type clothes."
She even hosted her own soiree at the Kodak gallery – where she sported black David Rodriguez capris, a black long-sleeved top and a red sash – in the hip SoHo neighborhood. But there's one New York staple she didn't try: hot dogs. "There was a Ray's Pizza," says the vegetarian singer. "I got me some pizza and it was great."
Caught in the Act
Johnny Knoxville, hanging out at Hollywood club Mood. The Dukes of Hazzard star hung out with American Idol heartthrob Constantine Maroulis and took pictures with female fans before slipping out the back exit. At the neighboring table: Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry.
Paris Hilton and beau Stavros Niarchos, partying at Teddy's, Amanda Scheer-Demme's new club inside the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The couple were in full PDA mode, making out against a column near the dance floor. Earlier that night, Mischa Barton and boyfriend Cisco Adler made the scene.
