Jessica Simpson is in talks to star in the upcoming film Employee of the Month, opposite stand-up comedian Dane Cook, Reuters reports.

Simpson, who proved a hit with moviegoers over the summer as Daisy Duke in The Dukes of Hazzard, would play an ultra-sexy cashier at a discount department store. Cook, who appeared in the recent comedy Waiting…, has been cast as one of two employees seeking Simpson's character's attention by vying for the "Employee of the Month" honor.

The film would be another step toward movie stardom for Simpson, who is trying to break out of the confines of reality TV where she became a household name along with her husband Nick Lachey on Newlyweds.

Meanwhile, some have questioned the stability of Simpson and Lachey's marriage, but the pair recently demonstrated their togetherness when celebrating Nick’s birthday, PEOPLE reports.

Lachey, who turned 32 on Nov. 9, was feted over a quiet dinner with family and friends in his hometown of Cincinnati. Although Simpson wasn't sporting anything as racy as the bustier she wore when she popped out of a birthday cake for Lachey's 30th birthday, a source told PEOPLE, "Jessica was dressed to kill." Plus, she picked up the $800 dinner bill – and tacked on a 75 percent tip.

Lachey was on a break from working on his second solo album, which is being record in Sweden.
