One song Jessica Simpson can never sing to George Lopez: "You Don't Bring Me Flowers."
The comedian sent a bouquet to the Dukes of Hazzard star to apologize for wisecracks he made about Simpson's ex, Nick Lachey, at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Jan. 10, Extra reports.
"The producers wanted to apologize to Nick Lachey, who could not be here because they didn't need any more seat fillers," Lopez joked onstage earlier this month at the Shrine Auditorium as an uneasy laugh went up from the crowd. The camera then panned to Simpson, who had performed earlier in the show and who did not look amused. (Lachey was not in attendance that night.)
As audible groans emerged, Lopez added: "Hey, that makes up for The Dukes of Hazzard."
Speaking to TV's Extra in comments that are scheduled to air Tuesday, Lopez says: "You know I did send her flowers … and it's very uncomedic to send flowers."
Lopez, 44, further tells the syndicated program: "I didn't realize it was her first time out after all that (the split) … and I felt a little bit like I may have ambushed her."
Simpson and Lachey announced their intention to split in November. She filed for divorce the following month.
