No Bail for Alleged American Idol Stalker
A Florida judge has denied bail for a California man charged with stalking former American Idol finalist Jessica Sierra.
Labeling Daniel Robert Young, 59, a flight risk who possibly poses a danger to the 20-year-old singer and her family, Circuit Judge Walter Heinrich handed down his order in a hearing Monday, the Associated Press reports.
Sierra – who was one of the 10 finalists on the FOX talent show last year – says she's "relieved, for now, just knowing my family is safe and I'm safe."
Sierra had testified that Young began calling her grandparents' Tampa home in October and pretended to be a record producer looking to get her phone number. "I told him, 'You are scary. You're scaring me,'" Sierra said in court Monday. "He said, 'How do you know I'm scary? You don't even know me.'"
Young left voicemail messages telling Sierra that he loves her and was willing to go to jail for her, according to police, who also said that he sent her jewelry and dozens of long-stemmed roses after seeing her on Idol.
Young was arrested last week after he flew from California to Tampa and called Sierra's cellphone twice asking her to pick him up, authorities said. Sierra then alerted police, who greeted Young at her grandparents' home.
