The Late Night host, 42, who has long joked that he resembles the redheaded politician (he even endorsed her campaign on his NBC show) met in Helsinki Tuesday. O'Brien gave Halonen, 62, a box of chocolates in the shape of a red heart. She gave him Finnish troll dolls.
"It's not every day I get to meet the president of a country," O'Brien told the Associated Press.
When the American landed in Finland last weekend, he announced that he expected to be rewarded for endorsing Halonen with a Cabinet position as inspector of saunas, "mostly women's saunas."
The job offer was not proffered, "but she has invited me to come and visit her with my family," said O'Brien.
He also said that his wife, Liza, was none too happy about his Valentine's Day meeting with Tarja and his calling her by her first name as many Finns do.
Said O'Brien: "She was so jealous, she said she would spend her Valentine's Day with President Bush."
