Cruise and Holmes were saluted for being "the celebs we're all sick and tired of" and, as one Razzie presenter said, the actor's couch-jumping antics on Oprah Winfrey's show happened on "the day when his rabies vaccine ran out," Reuters reported.
Razzies were also given to Jenny McCarthy, who was named worst actress for her film Dirty Love. The movie, which she cowrote with ex-husband John Asher, also won worst film of the year, worst screenplay and Asher was named worst director.
Rob Schneider bested Cruise in the worst actor category for his role in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo; Hayden Christensen won worst supporting actor for Star Wars, Episode III: Revenge of the Sith; and Paris Hilton was named worst supporting actress for her death scene in the horror film House of Wax.
Other Razzie honorees included Will Ferrell and Nicole Kidman, who were lauded as worst screen couple for their "less-than-bewitching chemistry" in Bewitched, and Son of the Mask won worst sequel.
The Razzies are given by the Golden Raspberry Foundation, formed to toast the worst in film.
