The '80s live again: John Travolta and Jennifer Lopez have been offered the leading roles in a screen remake of the Reagan era's TV favorite Dallas – Travolta as the heavy, J.R. Ewing, and J.Lo as Sue Ellen, reports Variety.

Also in the casting pool – though formal offers from 20th Century Fox, which will make the movie, have not been proffered – are Luke Wilson as JR's younger brother Bobby Ewing (who was memorably killed in a car crash only to live again when the accident turned out to be a dream) and Shirley MacLaine as matriarch "Miss Ellie" Ewing.

Australian director Robert Luketic (Monster-in-Law, which starred Lopez) will begin filming at the end of this year.

In other movie news, Ashton Kutcher and Kevin Costner are now before the cameras together in North Carolina where fake snow and about 70 local extras are helping to transform the local U.S. Coast Guard station into an Alaskan counterpart for "The Guardian."

Costner's character teaches Coast Guard rescue swimmers, including Kutcher, who plays a cocky swim champion training to become a rescue swimmer, reports the Associated Press.
