Tom Green Hospitalized in Central America
Tom Green was hospitalized for two broken ribs on Monday after being hit by a wave on a beach in Central America, the comedian's manager, Howard Lapides, confirmed to PEOPLE.
Green, who was released from the hospital Tuesday, calls the incident a "near death experience" on his personal Web site. The 34-year-old, Razzie-winning star of 2001's Freddy Got Fingered was standing on some rocks preparing to go fishing when "a wall of water" hit him, he writes.
"I actually tried to lean into (the wave), as if that would keep me in my footing. It was like leaning into a freight train. And I was gone. I felt my life flash before my eyes," he writes. " Milliseconds later I slammed hard onto the rocks…I could feel the cracking of bone."
Green says a local man took him to the hospital, where he was X-rayed and posed for a picture, because "a couple of the younger doctors recognized me."
Offering an update on his condition Wednesday, Green writes he's in "severe pain" but feels lucky to be alive. "It just doesn't make any sense that I am not paralyzed, or broken in more places, or dead."
Green was previously married to actress Drew Barrymore.
