Patricia Heaton Eyes Daytime Talk Show
Patricia Heaton could go the Kelly Ripa route and become the next sitcom star to host a daytime talk show.
The Everybody Loves Raymond Emmy winner, 48, is currently discussing just such a show with Buena Vista Television, which is aiming to bring the project to fruition in fall 2007, says the Hollywood Reporter. The program is described as a multi-hosted show in the style of The View.
Buena Vista is part of Disney, which is also producing Heaton's untitled comedy pilot for next season to air on company-owned network ABC.
Other sitcom stars who also straddle the talk worlds are Ripa (Hope & Faith and Live, with Regis and Kelly!) and Megan Mullally (Will & Grace and, set to premiere this fall, The Megan Mullally Show).
In other news of Raymond stars, Doris Roberts, who played the comedy's overbearing mother Marie, was making the talk-show rounds Thursday, promoting her Hallmark Channel TV movie that airs Saturday, the original drama Our House. Early reviews have been strong. This time, rather than being comically annoying and manipulative, Roberts plays a lonely Beverly Hills widow who takes homeless people into her house.
Reaping far less favorable critical notices, however, is Ray Romano. The new documentary about him and his standup tour, 95 Miles to Go, is being branded as dull. As the Hollywood Reporter headlines its review: "Everybody May Soon Hate Raymond."
