Perhaps the women of The View need an attitude adjustment. Or maybe they just need an Emmy.
In any event, after eight Daytime Emmy nominations for best talk-show hosts and eight losses, Barbara Walters, Meredith Vieira, Star Jones Reynolds, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck are so confident of another defeat come awards day April 28 that the show is launching a "Watch the Ladies Lose" contest.
"I think it just speaks to the fact that we don't take ourselves too seriously," Hasselbeck, of the syndicated ABC show, tells the Associated Press. "We're a realistic show. You know us – we don't bull around."
The three fans who win the contest will be flown to New York, the show's home, for a makeover and then to Hollywood, where they’ll meet Hasselbeck on the red carpet and then, apparently, watch the group go down in defeat.
Putting their losses into perspective, Bill Geddie, executive producer of The View, says that talk shows with multiple hosts traditionally don't win. Ellen DeGeneres won last year, and she's the only single host nominated this year.
As Geddie views it: "In essence, Ellen has already won. It would be funny if it backfired and we wound up winning, but I don't think that's going to be the case."
