New James Bond star Daniel Craig is defending himself against detractors who have threatened to boycott the upcoming 007 movie Casino Royale when it hits theaters in November.
"I'm a Bond fan,” Craig tells the BBC. "If I go and see a Bond movie there are certain things I think should be in it. And they're there. We've got them in spades."
Currently shooting the new 007 adventure in the Bahamas, Craig, 38, says that though all the usual habits of the secret agent are in place, so are some new ones, including this "James Blond" as being a bit of a bumbler.
"I just wanted to see him make a few mistakes," says Craig. "I want to make the audience believe that it's all going to go wrong and then when it goes right it's much more exciting."
He also admits: "Nobody knows more than I do how important this is, and it's my job to get it right."
Finally, as for the critics who are judging him without having seen a single frame of the flick, Craig says: "You can't believe the good stuff. You can't believe the bad stuff. You kind of just take it in. But I'm focused on making this film."
