Leif Garrett Jailed for Drug Violation

Former teen idol Leif Garrett was sent to jail after failing a series of drug tests while in rehab, the Associated Press reports.
Garrett, 44, began his 45-day sentence on March 30, after a Los Angeles Superior Court officer determined the actor-singer had violated the conditions of his rehab program.
Garrett's drug-related troubles date back nearly a decade. He had entered the California treatment facility after violating his probation after a 2004 arrest. The strict live-in rehab program was designed to help Garrett "make sure he doesn't fall off the wagon," his attorney said.
At Garrett's last progress hearing on March 9 he told reporters that he was getting his life in order. "I'm going down the right path," he said.
Garrett's next progress report is scheduled for May 11, the AP reports.
He is also facing additional charges in an unrelated case stemming from an incident in January. In that case, Garrett was stopped by police officers who suspected he was trying to ride a Los Angeles subway without a ticket. The officers allegedly found narcotics on him, and he was charged with felony heroin possession. He has pleaded not guilty.
