Matt Lauer Stays with Today
Katie Couric is leaving and Meredith Vieira is taking her place, but one thing will remain constant about the Today show: Matt Lauer.

He's staying – through 2011, at least.

"It's an important time for this show," Lauer, 48, tells The New York Times. Of extending his contract, which apparently was done with few machinations, the anchor said from his NBC office, "I like it here. I can be cagey about it and do all the things you're supposed to do. I like this job."

Lauer agreed to add three years to his current contract, which was set to expire in 2008, the Times reports. The Times also writes that, according to a person familiar with the deal, Lauer will earn more than $13 million a year. (In 2002, he reportedly made $4 million a year.)

Once this contract expires in 2011, Lauer will have been on Today for 14 years, only a shade less than Couric's 15-year stint, which made her the 53-year-old program's longest-running host.
