Coppola and Mars in Cannes on May 24
Filmmaker Sofia Coppola is expecting her first child this winter, PEOPLE reports in its new issue.
The father is Coppola's boyfriend, Thomas Mars, a singer for the French band Phoenix.
Grandpa will be Coppola's dad, the Godfather don himself, Francis Ford Coppola – who cast his daughter, then 19 and without acting experience, in 1990's The Godfather: Part III.
Coppola, now 35, won an Oscar for her screenplay of 2004's Lost in Translation, which she also directed.
Most recently, she wrote, produced and directed the $40 million Marie Antoinette, starring Kirsten Dunst as the young French queen. The movie premiered this month at the Cannes Film Festival to a mixed response. It opens in the U.S. in October.
Coppola included a song by Mars's band in the Lost in Translation soundtrack after hearing Phoenix's first album, United. Mars and bandmates Christian Mazzalai, Deck D'Arcy and Laurent Broncowitz released their third CD, It's Never Been Like That, last week.
Coppola's first marriage, to director Spike Jonze, lasted from 1999 to 2003 and ended in divorce.
