Newlyweds Brad Pitt, 37, and Jennifer Aniston, 32, have filed a $50 million lawsuit against Italian jewelry designer Silvia Damiani and Damiani International, claiming that an agreement never to replicate their wedding rings has been breached. In their legal papers filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, the couple, who married a year ago, claims that the jeweler not only reproduced the rings (comprised of two concentric bands in the buyer's choice of 18 karat white or yellow gold connected by either 12 or 13 diamonds) but put them on the market via the Internet and at retail stores in Palm Desert, Calif., and Las Vegas, Nev., for $1,000 apiece. (The bands for the stars were made in white gold. Ten diamonds join Pitt's ring, which is engraved, "Jen 2000." Aniston's ring has 20 diamonds and reads "Brad 2000.") Pitt and Aniston's lawsuit seeks an injunction that would halt sales immediately. "Damiani essentially made Pitt and Aniston serve as its unwilling shills, hawking its jewelry to potential customers," says the lawsuit, as quoted by the Associated Press. The complaint also goes on to say that the connection to Pitt and Aniston provides Damiani "the type of publicity that money can't buy: The purported endorsement and sponsorship of perhaps the world's most recognizable couple." AP, seeking a comment, could find no telephone listing for Damiani.
