AMA Nominations for Mariah, Chili Peppers

Mariah Carey, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Black Eyed Peas and Nickelback each received three nominations for the American Music Awards, it was announced Tuesday.
Carey, who has won nine AMA awards over her career, was nominated for favorite female artist in both the pop/rock and soul/rhythm & blues categories, as well as for favorite soul/rhythm & blues album, for The Emancipation of Mimi.
Nine artists received two nominations each: Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kanye West, Jamie Foxx, T.I., Rascal Flatts, Pussycat Dolls, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.
In one of the leading races, for pop/rock album of the year, the Chili Peppers and Nickelback are up against the cast of the Disney Channel movie High School Musical.
In the country competition, nominees for male artist are Kenny Chesney, Toby Keith and Keith Urban, while the female artists are Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood and Gretchen Wilson.
The other categories are soul/rhythm & blues, rap/hip-hop, Latin, alternative, contemporary inspirational and adult contemporary.
Winners will be picked by a survey of about 20,000 listeners. The awards will be given out in a Nov. 21 ceremony in Los Angeles that will be broadcast live on ABC from the Shrine Auditorium.
