Jeff Timmons, a former member of boy band 98 Degrees, was sentenced by a Florida court on Wednesday to a year's probation on charges of driving recklessly and refusing to sign a citation in April.
His lawyers entered a plea of no contest to the two misdemeanors, the Associated Press reports. Timmons, 33, was ordered to undergo treatment for alcohol and substance abuse and serve 50 hours of community service.
He had originally been charged
with driving under the influence, but that charge had been dropped for lack of evidence. "Mr. Timmons refused all physical testing – breath or blood or urine," said assistant state attorney Michelle Perlman.
Timmons was pulled over in Brevard County, Fla., on April 23 in a white Mercedes for driving 60 mph in a 45-mph zone. Authorities said he told police he'd had "a lot" to drink, but he said later that he'd had only two beers.
A former 98 Degrees bandmate of Nick and Drew Lachey's, Timmons released his first solo album, Whisper That Way,
in 2004. A follow-up is expected later this year.
