In her first stage appearance since she was diagnosed with breast cancer
18 months ago, Kylie Minogue performed before a sellout crowd of 10,000 in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday.
"Good evening, Sydney!" the Aussie singer cried she rose on a platform in the center of the stage, the Associated Press reports. "How are you feeling tonight?"
For her triumphant "Showgirl Homecoming Tour" performance, Minogue, 38, wore a pink-feathered headdress and a John Galliano gown. She opened the concert with her hit "Better The Devil You Know."
Last year, Minogue was forced to postpone the dates of her "Showgirl" tour while undergoing treatment, including surgery (in her Melbourne hometown) and a course of chemotherapy (in Paris, where her French actor boyfriend, Olivier Martinez, has a home).
During her recovery, she wrote a children's book, The Showgirl Princess
; launched her own fragrance, "Darling"; and served as an inspiration to other women to seek medical advice – a phenomenon dubbed "the Kylie effect."
"I had people already whose lives were potentially saved just by becoming more aware," Minogue told Britain's Sky One TV in July. "I'm not here to scare people at all. It's just that it just happens, so be aware."
After playing Australia this month and next, Minogue plans to take her show to Britain.
