Tennis ace Chris Evert and her husband of 18 years, ski champ Andy Mill, officially ended their marriage on Monday in a Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., family court.
Citing irreconcilable differences, Evert, 51, filed to divorce
Mill, 53, on Nov. 13. In the settlement reached Monday, she will pay him $7 million in cash and securities before Wednesday.
According to Evert's petition
, "The marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken."
"This was the worst day of my life," Mill told the Palm Beach Post
on Monday. Although Evert will retain custody of their couple's three children, ages 10, 12 and 15, Mill is to receive "reasonable" visitation rights.
"Now I need to concentrate on being the best father I can be to our boys because they're the most important things in my life. Chris understands they need me as much as they need her. We need to reestablish a balance in our lives," said Mill who, like Evert, had been married and divorced once before.
In addition to the $7 million, Mill will receive the former couple's $4 million Aspen, Colo., vacation home and several automobiles, including a Porsche. Meanwhile, Evert – who reportedly claims to be worth $24 million – will retain their $2.8 million house in the Palm Beach Farms section of Lake Worth, Fla.
Evert was at one of her son's soccer games Monday and not available for comment.
She was divorced from English tennis star John Lloyd in 1987 after an eight-year marriage.
