While other stars partied on New Year's Eve
at hot spots from Vegas to Miami, George Clooney welcomed 2007 at home in front of the TV – or at least that's what he told Jay Leno.
"I watched The Wizard of Oz
– a big tradition at my house," Clooney, 45, joked on Tuesday's Tonight Show.
He also noted that it was the special edition of the film with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon
as the soundtrack.
PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive said he took a similar approach to Christmas, which he spent at the Mexican beach resort of Cabo San Lucas.
"I didn't do anything," he told Leno. "I went down south with a couple of my friends because we said, 'We're sick of Christmas.' "
In keeping with the theme, "Nobody put on Christmas songs and we didn't celebrate at all." But the atmosphere, he insisted, wasn't bah-humbug "at all and we had a nice time down there."
In lieu of gifts, "We put up a Web site for all our buddies, and just said, 'Everybody has all you want,' and said 'What's your favorite charity? We'll give to that.' "
He did honor one tradition, however: the New Year's resolution. "I quit smoking," he said, prompting the audience to burst into applause. When Leno said, "I didn't know you smoked," Clooney quipped, "It was that or give up drinking, and I'm not going to do that."
