Madonna has easily adjusted to having a third child, David Banda, whom she adopted in October, she told Meredith Vieira on Thursday's Today show.
Part of the reason the latest addition to the family has been so simple: "I can get my older daughter to babysit for me," she said. "Both kids are really great with him."
Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie, who married in 2000, have a 6-year-old son, Rocco. Madonna 48, also has a daughter, Lourdes, 10, from a previous relationship.
While on vacation over the Christmas holiday, Madonna said she was out of touch with what was going on between Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump, whose verbal feud has made headlines in the U.S., but still stood up for her "good friend" Rosie.
Madonna (who was on the Today show to promote her appearance as a voice in the new animated feature Arthur and the Invisibles), said, "Basically, she's a standup comic. I think all standup comics talk about provocative things in their monologues before shows ... I don't know exactly the content of what she said, but I have a feeling that if every standup comic was penalized for saying every politically incorrect thing ... they'd all be hung in the public square."
She added, "I think people are giving Rosie a hard time. I wish they'd stop. I don't think it's fair."
As for Britney Spears, the object of her famous lip-lock at the September 2003 Video Music Awards, Madonna says the two have not been in touch since then. "We just worked together at that period of time," she said. "We shared a kiss, and I never saw her again." She also joked, "That's how it is, I guess."
Of their relationship, Madonna said of Spears, "I wouldn't say we're the best of friends." Because they live so far apart – Madonna in London and Spears in Los Angeles – and because Spears got married and had two children after her appearance with Madonna at the VMAs, "We just drifted apart," said Madonna. "It was nothing intentional."
