George Strait led the field – with eight nods, including those for entertainer of the year and top male vocalist – among nominees for the 42nd Academy of Country Music Awards, it was announced Monday.

Brooks & Dunn followed, with seven; Rascal Flatts, with six; Carrie Underwood, five; and Big & Rich, four, according to the ACM.

The ceremony will be presented May 15 in Las Vegas and broadcast live on CBS.

"Whenever you get nominated, it's a reflection of a lot of people's hard work," reigning ACM entertainer of the year Kenny Chesney said in announcing the nominates on CBS's The Early Show from Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame.

Strait's other nominations included those as artist and album producer (It Just Comes Natural) and for the single "Give it Away," which is also up for song of the year.

Brooks & Dunn are in the running as entertainers of the year and in the top vocal duo categories, with their Hillbilly Deluxe getting the nod for album of the year.

Flatts's nominations were for entertainer of the year, top vocal group, best album (Me and My Gang) and best single ("What Hurts the Most").
