"I'll always love Paul," Mills, 39, said in a BBC TV interview that aired in the U.K. Thursday night, the Associated Press reports. "He's the father of my child, and I'll always have strong feelings for him."
As for the alleged smear campaign against her, Mills says: "There is a huge agenda behind trying to destroy me and put me down."
She also says she does not deserve such treatment. "I'm not a publicity seeker ... I haven't gone 'round promoting things to finance my own pockets," she is quoted as saying.
Repeating her contention that there are those who are out to get her, Mills says: "But there are huge powers, I don't have that powerful system that [Paul] has. … There are huge powers that create these things for reasons of their own."
Mills and McCartney, 64, separated last May after four years of marriage and began divorce proceedings in July. The two, who met face to face in a London court earlier this month, have a 3-year-old daughter, Beatrice.
Speaking to PEOPLE in the upcoming issue, about her upcoming performance on season four of ABC's Dancing with the Stars (which debuts Monday), Mills says, "I can't really talk about Beatrice because of legal reasons and also because I'm protective and very private. But she dances around the room with me, and she loves to dress up in her princess dresses."
As for whether Beatrice will catching mom on the American TV show, "She's too young to come in and watch it [in the studio]," says Mills. "They don't let anyone under 16 come on, and I would never put her in front of the public camera. I don't take her to public events. We're very, very private."
