"On Monday, March 19, Jesse Metcalfe entered a rehab facility to deal with alcohol issues," spokesperson Susan Patricola said in a statement, first reported by the New York Post's Page Six.
"He realized he had a problem and was anxious to deal with it immediately."
The statement also says that the Desperate Housewives and John Tucker Must Die actor "hopes that the media will allow him the privacy to deal properly with his treatment."
Metcalfe, 28, was one of PEOPLE's Hottest Bachelors in 2005.
The name of the rehab center was not disclosed.
