Eminem & Ex-Wife Agree to Cool Bad Talk
On Monday, the two agreed in Michigan's Macomb County Circuit Court not to criticize each other in public for the sake of their 11-year-old daughter, Hailie Jade, the Associated Press reports.
Earlier this month, Eminem, 34, filed a motion seeking to prevent Mathers, 31, from making "derogatory, disparaging, inflammatory and otherwise negative comments" about him.
Last month, Mathers told Dr. Keith Ablow on his talk show, "When Marshall's first tour started is when his ego just went 'poof.' Like he was God, that's what he thought. ... I was just told that I should be grateful that he still talks to me, you know how many women throw themselves at him. And I just pretty much felt like a piece of crap."
For his part, the singer has criticized his ex in his lyrics. The two had been married twice, from 1999 to 2001 and again for less than three months last year.
Mathers attended Monday's pre-hearing, closed-door session in the chambers of Friend of the Court Referee David Elias. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, was not physically present in court but spoke over the phone in Elias's chambers.
Both sides agreed to the deal, it was announced at the hearing.
"We're happy the court was able to bring this matter to a just and equitable resolution," Eminem's lawyer, Harvey Hauer, said afterwards. Mathers's attorney, Michael J. Smith, said the decision was reached "for the full benefit of the child."
