There was almost a full house of Spice Girls on Sunday for the christening of Geri Halliwell's baby daughter.
"It was fantastic. Bluebell looked gorgeous in an antique christening robe," a guest tells PEOPLE. "And Geri looked fantastic. She has really slimmed down."
The only bandmate missing from the church service for 11-month-old Bluebell Madonna in north London was Scary Spice Melanie Brown, who welcomed a daughter of her own
on April 3.
"It wouldn't have been possible for Mel to fly at this juncture," says a pal of Brown.
Baby Bluebell Madonna was born in London last May 14 and weighed 5 lbs., 12 oz. Halliwell, 34, named her daughter after spring flowers
. "What really clinched it for me was my mother telling me that the bluebell is increasingly rare – so it's a precious flower, which seems just right for my daughter," she said last year.
As for the middle name, Halliwell said singer Madonna is one of her heroines. The child's estranged father, who is reportedly The Terminal
screenwriter Sacha Gervasi, 41, did not attend the christening or the buffet luncheon held at Halliwell's nearby home.
"There were gospel singers during the service and the comedian David Walliams read a bible passage," says the guest. "The weather was fantastic and there were about 100 guests in her garden."
Among the guests were Bluebell's godparents – Victoria Beckham, 33, and George Michael's partner, Kenny Goss. The former Posh Spice brought two of her three sons to the event, though husband David Beckham was stuck soccer training in Madrid.
Also at the christening: Baby Spice Emma Bunton, who is expecting her first child
with boyfriend Jade Jones, and Sporty Spice Melanie Chisholm.
"The four girls did spend a lot of time talking in the garden," says the guest. "I think they would like to do a reunion at some point but the time is not right just yet. Emma is heavily pregnant, Victoria wants another child and both Geri and Mel B are new moms."
Although Mel B was unable to fly out from her home in LA, she was there in spirit. "They all would have liked Melanie to have been there," says a source close to the women. "But they realize she has just had her baby. It was a rare chance for all of the others to catch up and they enjoyed talking about old times. It was a special Spice day."
