Ty Pennington was sentenced to 36 months probation, fined $1,500 and ordered to attend a 90-day alcohol education program after pleading no contest to driving under the influence of alcohol, Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan announced Friday.
"I'm happy to bring closure to my recent court proceedings," the host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
said in a statement.
"Drinking and driving is never acceptable. I have pleaded no contest and will abide by the court's ruling. I hope this experience can help others as much as it has helped me."
Pennington, 42, pleaded no contest – which carries the legal weight of a guilty plea – to driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent or higher. A second count, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, was dismissed, his rep says.
When Pennington was arrested
in the Marina Del Rey section of Los Angeles on May 5, his blood-alcohol level was .14 percent – well above the state's legal limit of .08 percent, authorities said.
At the time he was charged, authorities said he faced up to six months in jail.
The TV host later apologized
for his actions, saying, "I made a really bad error in judgment."
