Kelly Clarkson has a message for fans disappointed by the postponement of her summer tour.

"I can't tell you how much I've been looking forward to getting out there to perform for y'all," Clarkson, 25, writes on her Web site.

"In the craziness of the music business, performing is what I look forward to doing the most, so it really is disappointing for me to have to tell you that I won't be coming out to tour this summer. The fact is that touring is just too much too soon."

She continues: "But I promise you that we're going to get back out there as soon as is humanly possible to give you a show that will be even better. Thanks for all of your love and continued support."

On Thursday her rep, Paul Freundlich, said in a statement: "Plans for Kelly Clarkson's summer tour have been shelved for now as the singer and her team re-evaluate her show's size and scope – a decision made even more difficult by the impending release of her album, My December."

In the same statement, LiveNation CEO Michael Rapino said: "[T]icket sales have not been what we anticipated and we came to the realization that we had bit off more than we could chew."

According to the statement, ticket holders can get refunds at the point of purchase and will be notified of future concert dates once they are scheduled.

The new dates may well take place at smaller venues than originally planned. Gregg Perloff, CEO of Another Planet Entertainment, says in the statement: "The day when [Kelly] will play in sold-out arenas is, no doubt, coming, but for now her fans should look forward to seeing her in a more intimate concert environment."

This has been a tumultuous week for the 2002 American Idol winner, who on Tuesday parted ways with her manager, Jeff Kwatinetz of the Los Angeles-based company The Firm.

My December – the first album she co-produced and wrote entirely – is set for release June 25, but it has already made headlines, thanks to a well-publicized clash between Clarkson and her label chief, Clive Davis. Among other things, Clarkson complained that label execs asked her to cover a Lindsay Lohan song.
