• Courteney Cox, gabbing at length over dinner with two female friends at her favorite spot, West Hollywood eatery Il Sole. Also on the patio of the small eatery: Kimberly Stewart, dining with two guy friends. She and Cox sat at the table right next to each other but neither said "hello" to each other.
• Jake who? A newly single Reese Witherspoon, sipping a blackberry mojito at The Backyard, the poolside restaurant at the W Los Angeles, along with two girlfriends. An onlooker tells us: "She was in summer attire, just basking in the sun and laughing." And her pals must have been in a good mood: Witherspoon picked up the check.

• Meanwhile, the day before the big award show, rapper Nelly, gave partygoers an exclusive sneak peek at his new record – playing the disc for the first time during a cocktail party thrown by Jermaine Dupri (for 40 of his closest friends) at Hollywood hotspot Parc. Nelly was accompanied at the party by singer girlfriend Ashanti– and a guest tells us "they were all over each other." Other guests at the bash, including Bow Wow, Robin Thicke and Kim Kardashian, noshed on assorted appetizers and enjoyed the open bar.
