Tony Bennett, Wife Plan Italian Honeymoon
"She likes the way I sing," Bennett told PEOPLE at the Los Angeles Film Festival's Spirit of Independence Awards on Thursday. "She has good ears and she likes good music."
At the awards, the singer, 80, introduced his 47-year-old bride to the evening's honoree, actor-director Clint Eastwood, whose documentary on Bennett's life, Tony Bennett: The Music Never Ends, is expected in theaters later this year
Crow said that after being together for 20 years there was no single reason to tie the knot. "We just decided to do it," she said, then slyly referenced one of the standards of the American songbook that her husband helped made famous. "It was just one of those things."
The couple, who were also with Bennett's 20-year-old daughter Antonia at the awards, were married in a private civil ceremony in New York on June 21, witnessed by the state's former governor Mario Cuomo and his wife Matilda.
The couple kept the details of the ceremony discreet, but Crow said "just being together" was the highlight of the day. "The fact that we could just do it on our own the way we wanted to be was perfect."
Despite the low-key ceremony, Bennett said he planned out the big day with an "absolutely" romantic proposal.
"He's always romantic – every day," said Crow.
The couple will soon be embarking on a honeymoon. "We're going to spend a whole month in Italy," said Bennett, who plans to "paint a lot, and then we're just going to have a beautiful honeymoon."
