"Funny is key – funny, silly, someone who doesn't take themselves seriously, someone who can be ridiculous," Biel, 25, tells Parade.com about the kind of man she goes for. "That's the most attractive thing."
Asked if she can maintain her sense of humor while paparazzi are snapping photos of her with beau Justin Timberlake, Biel answers, "Absolutely. ... You do really have to just get into a place where you feel Zen about it."
Biel and Timberlake were photographed together last month in various European cities where the singer was on tour. "It's so funny how it really has become such a crazy, crazy world," she says. "You really do just have to laugh at everything."
And she's hoping audiences will laugh at her new comedy, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, costarring Adam Sandler and Kevin James. In it, Biel's sex appeal is part of her shtick.
"I definitely brought a female energy," Biel told PEOPLE at a Manhattan screening of the film hosted by Cosmopolitan magazine on Tuesday. "What was needed from me, for my character, was sort of that likable, attainable, real woman, who can hang with the guys, is smart and sophisticated, has her own business, but can hang with the girls, likes to shop, like a really well-rounded person."
Would that character description also apply to Biel herself? "Yeah, I think so," she said. "I pretty much get along with everybody and I like sports, I like to shop, I'm good in both areas."
Still, when asked by Parade about her screen image – earlier this year Biel said its sexy aspect may, in fact, have hurt her career – she replied, "Sexy sexy can be sort of boring. … Funny sexy is way more fun and definitely easier because you can be ridiculous"
Returning to her familiar refrain, she adds, "So I would much rather laugh and do a funny sexy scene."
