may be plagued with her share of turmoil – including rumors about her sobriety and exhaustion
– but one aspect of her life is particularly healthy.
She's dating restaurateur J.T. Torregiani, she admits.
On Wednesday's Today
show, host Matt Lauer teased the Hey Paula
and American Idol
star that she once compared her romantic life to "a horror movie." He then asked if she were currently dating.
Acting coy, Abdul replied that things were "looking upwards – things are looking good right now."
As she was being cagey on any details, Abdul was confronted on air with a photograph of her and Torregiani at this week's New York premiere of Hairspray.
Lauer then asked if her movie date was the reason for her happiness.
Abdul answered in the affirmative, saying her beau "is a good guy."
While Abdul has not spoken much publicly about the relationship before, she and Torregiani have been linked for more than a month.
In June, Abdul celebrated turning 45
with a scavenger hunt and birthday bash – attended by friends and former Idol
contestants Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis – at Torregiani's West Hollywood eatery Ketchup, where he spent the entire night by her side. The couple have also been spotted multiple times at his L.A. hotspot Les Deux.
