"Obviously, I haven't jumped into a relationship, and I haven't met someone that really excites me," Duff told Ryan Seacrest during his KIIS-FM radio show Thursday. "I would rather be alone and learn about myself."
Asked what it was like being in a high-profile relationship with the Good Charlotte singer, Duff, 19, said, "We weren't always talked about because I think we kind of avoided it. [It] was talked about afterwards."
Seacrest, referring to Madden's current relationship with Simple Life star Nicole Richie, who is reportedly pregnant with Madden's child, then asked Duff how she was affected when "he went back into another relationship with somebody that is famous."
Replied Duff, "When you break up with someone, you have to deal with the fact that you are going to see them with someone else. It affected me, of course." She added that there is no way to prepare for seeing your ex with a new girlfriend.
As for being single, Duff told Seacrest: "It has not been the easiest thing to do but it has been the thing that has made me feel like a really independent girl. I would love to have a great boyfriend, but right now is not the time and I can work and whatever."
Duff, who has been hitting the club scene with her sister Haylie in Los Angeles this summer, also cleared up another dating rumor. When asked if Haylie is dating Princes of Malibu star Brody Jenner, as has been reported on multiple Web sites, Duff says: "I would kill her! He's dated a lot of people that we know, and that is kind of awkward."
