The 35-year old actress got her professional start 12 years ago as an understudy for a play in New York, and is currently in negotiations to star opposite Kevin Kline in a revival of Cyrano de Bergerac on Broadway, the New York Post reports.
Kline, 59, an accomplished theater actor, would play the title role. Garner, who starred on Alias and is married to Ben Affleck, would play Roxanne, the French socialite with whom Cyrano is secretly in love.
Edmond Rostand's 1897 play was cleverly reimagined for the big screen in the 1987 Roxanne, in which Steve Martin played the long-nosed hero, this time named Charlie. José Ferrer won a Best Actor Oscar in 1950 for his title role in Cyrano de Bergerac.
Garner grew up in the theater, mostly in musical roles. Shortly after college, she landed a job as as an understudy in the Broadway production of Ivan Tugenev's A Month in the Country. She soon moved to TV and eventually won the part of Sydney Bristow in the spy drama Alias, which made her a star.
The production is set to be directed by David Leveaux and would run for 10 weeks, beginning in October, according to the Post.
Garner most recently was reported to be working on a TV show described as "The View for mothers." She and Affleck have a 20-month-old daughter, Violet.
Garner also stars with Jamie Foxx in the upcoming movie The Kingdom, which hits theaters Sept. 28.
Garner's rep did not immediately return a request for comment.
