"Jennifer and Jesse are consummate professionals," Edelstein told PEOPLE at the In Style 7th annual Summer Soiree in Beverly Hills on Thursday. "They really have never brought their relationship onto the set to begin with, so they're not bringing their breakup onto the set either."
Morrison, 28, and Spencer, 28, canceled their wedding plans last week. "After much consideration, we have decided not to get married," the couple said in a joint statement. "We are still very close, and we look forward to continuing to work together on House".
As recently as July 23, Morrison, who attended a Television Critics Association event at the Santa Monica Pier with Spencer by her side, was still wearing her engagement ring.
Though House is back in production, a representative for the show could not confirm whether Spencer or Morrison has returned to the set.
Despite the broken engagement, Edelstein was hopeful that the relationship may not be beyond saving. "I don't even know if they're actually broken up or they're just not getting married as planned," said Edelstein. "They're beautiful people, and they're good friends, and I really think that it's all going to be okay."
