Melanie Brown is "very happy" with her life – and she can't help but gush about her new husband
, Stephen Belafonte.
"We've been through a very similar roller coaster with life, friends and experience," Brown, 32, says in the October issue of Jet.
"You know how someone makes themselves a better person every time you see them? That's him.
"I have complete respect for someone that can take the best bits out of the crap bits and make it all blossom," she continues.
And Brown, who calls herself "very happy," takes pride and joy from her children, daughter Phoenix Chi, 8, and 5-month-old Angel Iris.
"I can't go a day without giving them lots of kisses," she says. "I terrorize them with kisses."
Brown is so happy she even has nice things to say about Eddie Murphy, her ex and father of Angel Iris.
"I have nothing bad to say about him," she says in the interview, clarifying, "For the guy that he was when I was with him. He was nice. Really nice. Since I've left, I don't know that person so I can't comment on that."
Murphy, 46, is now engaged to Tracey Edmonds – and the two are planning their upcoming nuptials.
Two other sources of happiness and self-esteem for Brown: Her December reunion tour
with the Spice Girls and her coveted spot
on Dancing with the Stars
, which begins its fifth season on Monday. While she is not aiming to take home the Dancing
trophy, training for the competition has proven to be a fun challenge for Brown and
her professional partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
"If Melanie would not have been a quick learner, this would have been a disastrous partnership because she has no attention span and she's constantly joking," he tells Jet.
But he recognizes her hard work and drive, adding, "I'm saying this now with a lot of love because it does not stand in the way of her learning whatsoever."
Brown echoes the sentiment. "If I'm going to do something I'm going to get involved it in and engrossed in it," she says. "We're just enjoying ourselves and having fun."
