Picks and Pans Review: Shall We Dance?

Blame it on the bossa nova, the mambo or the Macarena, but Hollywood loves a dance movie. Here are some favorites—and guilty pleasures.

Singin' in the Rain (1952) Getting soaked never looked as fun as it did when Gene Kelly went puddle-hopping in this classic.

Flashdance (1983) Jennifer Beals is a welder by day and a m-a-a-niac on the floor by night. The movie that made you wear your sweatshirt off the shoulder is pure '80s cheese, but like the song says, What a Feeling!

Dirty Dancing (1987) Nobody puts Baby in the corner, not even panther-like Patrick Swayze, who brings sex to the Borscht Belt by teaching Jennifer Grey to swivel her hips.

Save the Last Dance (2001) Can suburban princess and ballerina Julia Stiles throw it down hip-hop style? Well, at least here, she gives it her best shot.
