SANDRA AND JESSE
"Secrets of a Happy Marriage after one year? I guess that's the equivalent of 10 years for non-celebs."
San Francisco, Calif.
Thanks for putting the coolest couple in showbiz on your cover. I'm glad that Sandra Bullock
and Jesse James found happiness in each other, and I hope that they can be each other's support system for a long time. Congrats to both of them.
It's refreshing to see a couple that can handle fame gracefully and remain so down-to-earth. Their charity work and adoption of disabled animals, like their one-eyed Chihuahua, Bebe, shows what kind and generous people they are.
Hooray for Jesse and Sandra! I married the man I dated at my junior prom, and we just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. We know what the "secrets of a happy marriage" are, so tell Sandra and Jesse to call me in a few years if things start to get rough.
Asking Sandra Bullock
what makes a successful marriage [after just one year] is like asking someone who has run a mile to explain what makes a great marathoner. Let's check back in 26 years.
So, let me understand why Peter Cook, Christie Brinkley's husband, would cheat on his wife. According to your article, Cook "long chafed at being known as 'Mr. Brinkley.'" Interesting, then, that he had been with another young woman before he became "Mr. Brinkley." These are not the actions of a man who made a stupid mistake. This is a pattern that has gone on for years. Grow up, Peter, and stop trying to recapture your youth through young girls. Good luck, Christie; you and your children are in my prayers.
Please tell me that I'm not the only person who thinks Christie Brinkley and her children are the true victims in all this. Diana Bianchi, the 19-year-old with whom Peter Cook had an affair, is an adult. How does she have the nerve to portray herself as a pitiful, naive young girl? She knew that Cook, her boss at the time, was married with a family and that he probably wasn't offering her $50 an hour for her business skills. She now presumably wants a settlement for making a terrible life choice and helping to destroy a family. Shame on her.
Regarding your story about rumors that Oprah
Winfrey and her best friend Gayle King are lesbians, why is it that if a woman never marries she must be gay, but if a man never marries he is considered an eligible bachelor?
In the photo of Katie Holmes
in Star Tracks, the caption says that the next day she took a meeting at CAA [Creative Artists Agency]. Does that stand for Cruise Addiction Anonymous?
Our story about the Shelton family—mom, dad and their three grown kids, each of whom underwent gastric surgery to lose weight—generated letters that praised the family for their weight loss but also criticized the path they chose. "While I applaud the Sheltons for choosing to change their lifestyle, I balk at the extremes they took to get there," writes Jennifer May of Stockton, Calif. "It seems to me to be a quick fix." Adds Jennifer Christiansen of Sussex, Wis.: "Instead of spending $11,000 per person on gastric surgery, how about [hiring] a personal trainer and nutritionist?"
