Bridget Moynahan & Tom Brady
FOR THE BABY'S SAKE
Eight months after calling it quits, Bridget Moynahan and Tom Brady welcomed their baby John Edward Thomas Moynahan into the world. Awkward? Could be. But both sides appear to be making the best of the situation. Brady hopped a private jet to L.A. Aug. 22 and joined ex-girlfriend Moynahan on her delivery day. And he text-messaged friends with updates on the birth. It was clear, says his friend Jason Taylor, that "these are adults who are responsible enough to work things out. Things happen, but they're handling it correctly."
Brady and Moynahan ended their three-year relationship last December, and the New England Patriots quarterback, 30, began dating supermodel Gisele Bündchen, 27. Only then did Moynahan, 36, discover she was pregnant. Facing the daunting task of raising a baby alone, the Six Degrees actress "showed great strength and dignity during her pregnancy," a friend tells PEOPLE. And today? "We hope that Tom will step up to the plate now that the baby is born."
Brady's mother, Galynn, told PEOPLE, "We're just happy that everybody's healthy. It's such a blessing." Moynahan, says another friend, "is open to Tom playing a role in [the baby's life]." A role Brady intends to take seriously. Says Taylor: "Tom really hopes to be a hands-on dad."
Violet Affleck won't be sharing her toys any time soon. Asked about persistent pregnancy rumors by The Boston Globe, Violet's mom, Jennifer Garner, replied, "Is it because I don't have the flattest stomach in the world that people keep asking?" Never mind those abs. The former Alias star was more than svelte for her role as a butt-kicking FBI agent in the upcoming thriller The Kingdom. ("What are a few bruises?" asks Garner.) The actress admits she's "going to work for a while" before adding to her clan with husband Ben Affleck. In fact, she'll appear as Roxane opposite Kevin Kline in a 10-week revival of Cyrano De Bergerac opening this fall. Though juggling a Broadway play and a toddler will be a challenge, Garner says, "We haven't hit 2 yet. We have seen glimpses of terrible, but for the most part [things are] pretty smooth." The two spend quality time at the swings, Garner says, and she won't let her Violet watch TV: "I want all the attention."
Awkward youngsters, take heart: Jessica Alba feels your pain. At the Aug. 26 Teen Choice 2007 awards, the actress dedicated her "Choice Female Hottie" surfboard to mystery man Ross. Why? "Ross didn't love me," Alba, 26, told the audience. "I was pigeon-toed; I was cross-eyed, buck-toothed; I sucked my thumb." (Her rep says the story is true.) Perhaps worse, Ross didn't pick Alba, then 7, for his baseball team. "He promised if I kissed him, he'd choose me," Alba said later. "I was still chosen last." At least she came out on top: After listing her aesthetic afflictions, Alba laughed, "Look at me now, Ross!"
How can fans help "Rehab" singer Amy Winehouse and her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, conquer their spiraling drug habit? "Perhaps it's time to stop buying records," Winehouse's father-in-law Giles Civil told the BBC. His wife, Georgette, tells Scoop, "We are all hoping that something will make them stop."
NICOLE & JOEL
Joel Madden has been coy about whether he and expectant girlfriend Nicole Richie are engaged, but there's one point the rocker was crystal clear on during an Aug. 14 taping of The Tyra Banks Show: He hopes their firstborn is a boy. "A world can use another Joel," Madden told Banks during the interview with his brother Benji, which airs Sept. 13. Meanwhile pal Paris Hilton doesn't care what Richie (who was released from jail on Aug. 23—after just 82 minutes—for her second DUI) is having; she's started shopping. On Aug. 22 Hilton hit L.A. boutique Intuition for a book of baby's first fashion words and a tiny tee reading, "Don't Ya Wish Your Mommy Was Hot Like Mine?" Says a source: "She's so excited about Nicole being a mom."
TEEN MOVIE SHOWDOWN
One is lewd, crude and downright hilarious. The other is, well, none of those things. But Superbad and High School Musical 2, the summer's reigning teen flicks, have more in common than you might think

Miss South Carolina Teen USA, Lauren Caitlin Upton, became an instant YouTube smash as millions downloaded a replay of her totally botched answer to a question about why young Americans have trouble locating the United States on a map during the finals of the Miss Teen USA pageant. Scoop asked Upton, 18, to grade herself on geography and other subjects.

Heather Locklear and David Spade have hooked up—as costars. She'll guest on his CBS sitcom, Rules of Engagement, this fall.
After her split from Richie Sambora, Locklear was seen with Spade. But pals denied a romance—and she then started dating Jack Wagner. "He's been a great friend," a Locklear pal says of Spade, maintaining the pair were never more than good buddies.
Perhaps more than the herring was pickled at Stockholm's Café Opera Aug. 20 when Bill Murray left after 3 a.m.—in a golf cart. Cops waved him over, and "he smelled of alcohol, but refused to take a breath test," Christer Holmlund of the Stockholm traffic police told a local paper. Murray did take a blood test but was not arrested. His rep could not be reached for comment.
The L.A. native and TV host takes on the Big Apple and Barack Obama in the third season of The Tyra Banks Show
After two successful seasons of her Emmy-nominated talk show, the host is moving The Tyra Banks Show (premiering on Sept. 10) to New York. Tyra Banks, 33, takes a break from unpacking her U-Haul with PEOPLE's Amy Elisa Keith.
You were such an L.A. girl, how could you ever leave?
I have always loved New York. This is where I found my independence as a young model. I was here last spring and I fell in love all over again.
Cab, train or walk?
I have been walking so much here, I have gone from 161 lbs. to 155 lbs. I keep a pair of flats around and I always have some singles for a soft serve!
Has anyone given you advice on doing a show in New York?
Yes, the people of New York! Everyone from taxi drivers to hot dog vendors to people on the street; everyone has advice and I love hearing it.
You're interviewing Barack Obama on Sept. 27. Nervous?
I am looking forward to having him to talk about his vision but also ask him atypical questions to get up-close and personal.
Have you gotten settled in your new home? Started decorating?
I've had a place here for a few years, but now I'm really focused on creating my own little oasis in the city. I want to walk into my apartment and leave the craziness of the day behind me.
