What a difference a pregnancy makes. Preparing for her second baby, Britney Spears
skipped the lavish showers in favor of intimate gatherings at friends' houses and even planned to recycle many of Sean Preston's nursery items and playthings. As a friend noted half-jokingly, "The [decorating] fury isn't there this time."
As it happens, she'll get twice as much use out of all things blue. Just before 2 a.m. on Sept. 12—exactly two days before Sean Preston's first birthday—Spears, 24, and her husband, Kevin Federline
, 28, welcomed their second son, who weighed in at just under 7 lbs. and whose name they had not released at press time, via scheduled C-section at a Los Angeles hospital. An hour later, the proud dad was seen grinning as he milled about the hospital; later in the day Sean Preston and Britney's sister Jamie Lynn were among the visitors. The whole thing, says a source, was smooth—just as the mom-to-be had predicted to PEOPLE in August, saying childbirth "will be a piece of cake."
And no doubt every bit as sweet the second time around. Unlike her first pregnancy, during which she gained "50-60 lbs.," this time Spears chowed on ice chips instead of ice cream (she gained 40 lbs.) and remained mellow throughout. Plus Sean Preston kept her busy. As a mom, she said in August, she'd learned "just how much you can love someone unconditionally and how much you feel loved by them."
Now that she's got her two boys (she's also stepmom to Federline's two children, Kori, 4, and Kaleb, 2), Spears is learning she has more than enough love to go around—and around again? That's right: Don't be shocked if the newest little guy ends up with a younger sibling—perhaps the daughter Spears hopes someday to take to ballet lessons. As the young mom recently told an acquaintance, "I'm far from being done having kids!"
